The North Marion School District Board makes an annual determination regarding the Inter-District Transfer process for K-12 students and their families requesting transfers into and out of the North Marion School District. This process begins with families requesting release from their resident school district and then requesting admittance to their preferred district. The School Board makes annual decisions regarding whether to accept students into the district through the inter-district transfer process and if so, how many at each grade level. School Board Recommendation for Transfers Out 2026-2027: North Marion School District is proud of the work we are doing and welcome you to be part of the North Marion Schools Community! Read more about us HERE.
A district may consider a transfer request outside of the inter-district transfer policy and procedures where a hardship exists. Oregon is not a school choice state; however, it allows school districts to establish procedures for the review of any student request to attend school in another district. We have adopted this approach because our fundamental beliefs and core values represent excellent instruction and services provided directly to students are the most effective methods for achieving our strategic goals, including student achievement."
Resident students will not be released from the North Marion School District for the 2026-2027 school year, except those wishing to attend an online public charter school. Families may request a release due to hardship.* Hardship is specifically defined in OAR 581-021-0019(1)(c).
*"Hardship" means any of the following:
(A) The student is impacted by a parent or guardian's military deployment;
(B) The student is experiencing instability related to homelessness or foster care placement;
(C) The student has a documented medical condition that necessitates transfer;
(D) Death of a student's parent;
(E) The student does not have access to safe and affordable childcare in the resident district; or
(F) The student is involved in a documented case of severe harassment, intimidation, bullying, or cyberbullying.
