How to Attend School Board Meetings

 

All Board Meetings are open to the public.  Unless otherwise posted, meetings are held virtually and in-person in the District Conference room located in North Marion Middle School at 20246 Grim Road NE, Aurora, Oregon.  All meetings are accessible via YouTube.  Public comment is reserved for Regular Business Meetings.  All persons wishing to attend in-person to provide public comment must adhere to public comments protocol.  To learn more about the public comment process, see the Public Comments section at the bottom of this page. 

Regular Business Meetings: The School Board meets on the second Monday of each month for a regular business meeting according to the Oregon Public Meetings Law (ORS 192.610 to 192.710).  Click here for the 2023-2024 Board Meeting Dates or download the support document below.  All Meetings are posted to the district calendar on the website.  Postings are in compliance with the "Open Meetings Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (the "ADA"). 

Work Sessions (Updated 12/2022): Work sessions begin following the regular business meeting on the second Monday of each month. Sessions provide opportunities to discuss specific topics in greater depth, or provide board development training. 

Special Meetings: When a topic needs a deeper analysis, the School Board may call a special meeting. These are posted at least 24 hours in advance.

Emergency Meetings: The School Board may call an emergency meeting if urgent or time-sensitive matters arise. The meeting time and date and the agenda will be posted as soon as possible.

Executive Sessions: The School Board may convene an executive session before or after a regular session or work session under the authority of Oregon Revised Statutes 192.660(1) and 192.660(2). Executive Session Purposes and Restrictions.   Allowable topics:  (a)  Employment; (b)  Dismissal or Discipline of Employees, Board Members, Employee or Contractor; (d)  Labor Negotiations; (e)  Real Property Transactions; (f)  Exempt Public Records;  (h) Consult with Legal Counsel; (i)  Evaluation of Superintendent Executive sessions are closed to the public in accordance with   ORS 192.690 (1). 

Note: News media may attend but cannot report on the content of executive sessions.  

Public Comments Guidelines

The purpose of public comments is for the NMSD Board of Directors to hear public concerns, comments, and opinions (not personnel complaints). The board will accept public comments in person (sign-up required) or in written form electronically via email to the board secretary by 2:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting.  Comments submitted via email after 2:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting may be reserved for the next regular meeting of the board. The board chair may use discretion to establish a total time limit, and if all comments shall be read.  Click here for public comment guidelines and protocols
