First Student Recruiter Supports North Marion with Scarf Fundraiser

Shelbi Mattison and her scarves

By Jillian Daley

First Student is supporting North Marion families with three events: the free Decorate a Pumpkin Event, the Fall Craft Bazaar, and Shelbi Mattison’s scarf fundraiser.

Mattison, First Student Regional Recruiter for Hubbard and Woodburn, is donating the proceeds of her handmade scarves to the North Marion School District. She will be selling her scarves at the bazaar, which will be held at the Bus Barn on Oct. 14, and will also feature booths with items such as art, crafts, and artisan candles.

Mattison also wanted local families to know about the Decorate a Pumpkin event on Oct. 22, which is a collaboration of the Hubbard Fire Department, First Student, and local Girl Scout Troop 10165, with support from local farms.

Why is Mattison holding the scarf fundraiser?

“I thought, ‘What could I do to help out with some fundraising? What can I give to families and give to others?’” Mattison said. “I’m a creative person, so I came up with scarves. Winter is right around the corner.”

Each infinity scarf comes with two distinct sides, its outside covered in a layer of cotton fabric with a cheery print and its inside lined with cloud-like white fleece material. The Beaverton mom has a sense for what children and fun-loving adults might like, and she’s a strong seamstress, having been sewing since she was just 7 years old.

How much longer will the fundraiser go on?

Mattison plans to continue it as a long-term project, selling the scarves on Facebook or at events, and donating periodically.

“I’m just here to support First Student and North Marion,” she said.

Where can you get the scarves besides the bazaar?
