Emergency Notifications (School Closures & Delays)

Schools in the North Marion School District may close due to severe weather, power outages, or other emergency events or student safety situations.   Severe weather impacting transportation prompting a delay, a closure, or early release status will be posted as early as possible using (in this order) the FlashAlert System, School Messenger (district auto-dialer), NMSD School’s Facebook pages, and to the District Website home page.  All staff and families are encouraged to subscribe.

Flash Alert System

Notifies the public of school emergencies, by feeding directly into local news stations, sending texts and email directly to the subscriber’s mobile phone (if signed-up), as soon as decision is made.  In some cases we may make the decision, the night before, or as early as 4 am.

Auto-Dialer (School Messenger)

Sends the audio message and email (5 am for staff, and 5:30 am for parents) directly to your primary phone in PowerSchool. To receive an SMS Text message, you must “Opt-in”.

  • Opt-In: School Messenger app gives you access to school notifications of all types in a single inbox. Text “YES to 67587 to Opt-in for messages from school.  If you later decide to opt out, you may reply “STOP” to any message from a school or the district.
