WHAT IS AVID IN THE NORTH MARION SCHOOL DISTRICT?

AVID ELECTIVE:

North Marion Middle School launched its first AVID Elective class for seventh grade students in 2021-2022 and will expand to an eighth-grade elective class in 2022-2023. Additionally, plans to expand district-wide are forthcoming. The AVID program targets students who are in the academic middle who have the desire to learn and work hard. Typically, they will be the first in their families to attend college, and many are from marginalized communities. During their Elective class students work on critical thinking and reading, and work in collaborative scholar groups. They receive support from high school tutors and participate in enrichment activities such as college visits.

AVID SCHOOLWIDE:

AVID positively impacts all students at North Marion Middle School and will ultimately impact the entire district by creating a schoolwide college and career readiness system through four AVID domains: Leadership, Culture, Systems, and Instruction. Students learn skills to become more organized, take better notes, and work through collaboration and inquiry via self-determination. They develop lifelong skills to become better students throughout their educational career.
