At their business meeting on March 14, the North Marion School Board adopted the 2016-17 school calendar.
A calendar committee met this year consisting of teaching staff, instructional staff, parent and board representation. We worked hard on gathering feedback from all our stakeholders utilizing social media launching a calendar survey. Again this year; we worked at keeping it clean and family friendly. It has very few disruptions to teaching and learning and it really minimizes interruptions to the home schedule of our families.
English: 2016-17 District Calendar updated 6.20.16 - Printable Student/Parent and Staff Calendar
First Day of School: This calendar closely resembles last years with school starting on the first Wednesday after Labor Day, September 7th, and ending June 15 (half-day for students).
Conferences: Fall Student Led Conferences (SLC) for all students will be October 12th and 13th, with no students in classes on either day. Spring Conferences for all students will follow April 26 & 27. Again this year, the first conference day on April 26th will be a regular start school day (NO LATE START); conferences beginning at 1:00 pm - Students will be on Early Release (half-day) Schedule April 26th. April 27th will be all-day conferences, and April 28th No Staff or Students.
Holidays: We will continue our traditional day before Thanksgiving off and the Friday following. Winter Break begins December 19th and Ends January 1st. Students return to class on January 2nd. Spring Break follows the college & university system; and will begin March 27th through March 31st. Student return to class on April 3rd.
Late Start Wednesdays: Wednesday’s are once again slated as late start days for staff development. All Wednesdays, including the first day of school on September 7th will be late start days. The one exception is April 26th. Bus Routes pick up times will run 1 1/2 hours later than normal on those days.
Many people are finding the late start Wednesdays as a great time to schedule dentist appointments, haircuts, doctor office visits, or just as fun family time”. Our staff, with all of the new initiatives coming from the state and federal reform efforts we would be drowning without our Wednesday morning PLT’s (Professional Learning Time) each week.
