Welcome to the Counselor's home page. My name is Stephanie Godfrey and this is my tenth year as a counselor for our wonderful school. Prior to counseling, I was a teacher and have over 20 years of experience in the field of education. I have worked with children as young as two in early childhood education programs all the way up to adolescents in middle schools. I am very happy to be part of such a supportive and amazing school filled with exceptionally talented teachers and staff.
As a counselor, it's my job to help ensure that kids are healthy, happy, and safe at school. Most children have events or situations in their lives that can interfere with learning and make being at school difficult. One of my passions in life is to empower children to cope with these circumstances or help remove the detriments that might stand in their way of becoming a successful learner.
Some of the ways in which we ensure successful and happy life long learners are through the curriculum and activities offered in our school. We use Second Steps and Steps to Respect guidance curriculum to address social/emotional skill building. We have the Big Brother/Big Sister program that offers mentors to students who need a little extra support. We work with Behavior Specialists that facilitate social skills, friendship, and self-esteem groups. We have a Leadership Team comprised of students who represent their classrooms in meetings and help organize and take part in fundraisers, assemblies, spirit week, and community service projects.
Aside from the activities and curriculum we offer at the Intermediate school, we also strive to create an environment that is positive and emphasizes character education. Our goal is to help students understand the importance of being: trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring, cooperative, safe, and good citizens.
